Dereck Ridriguez Joins Father as MLB Player

Dereck Rodriguez, son of Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez, made his major league debut on May 29 in a relief appearance for the San Francisco Giants.  On June 3, he got his first major-league start against the Philadelphia Phillies, going six innings and yielding five hits and two walks while giving up only one earned run.  He got credit for the win.

Rodriguez was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2011 as an outfielder.  In 2014, he switched to pitching in the Twins organization.  He signed with the Giants after the 2017 season.

His father, Ivan, was a major-league catcher for 21 seasons, primarily playing for the Texas Rangers and Detroit Tigers.  His two World Series rings came from playing with the Florida Marlins (2003) and Detroit (2006).
