Independent League Baseball Owes its Existence to Mike Veeck

Mike Veeck comes from a baseball family of team owners, with his last name being one of the most recognizable in baseball history.

In 1993, Veeck was one of three partners who started the successful independent minor league St. Paul Saints in the then-Northern League.  It helped to solidify the independent leagues that exist today.   Veeck is currently a part-owner of five teams.

Veeck’s father was the legendary Bill Veeck Jr., who was an owner of the Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, and St. Louis Browns.  The father was known for his marketing and public relations genius in an era before mass media was prominent,

Veeck’s grandfather was  William Veeck Sr., who was once president of the Chicago Cubs.
