For the better part of 40 years, Hal Lanier has been involved in baseball in one capacity or another. He played for ten seasons in the big leagues with the Giants and Yankees. He managed the Houston Astros from 1986 to 1988 and also in the minor leagues in the Cardinals organization. He starting his 17th season as the manager of a team in one of the independent leagues. Currently he with Ottawa of the Can-Am League.
Hal’s father, Max, played in the major leagues during 1938 to 1953, winning 108 games for the Cardinals and Giants.
