Brothers Christian and Collin Yelich chose baseball over football, where their family had excelled.
Christian is currently an outfielder for the Florida Marlins, a Gold Glove Award winner in 2013. Collin is playing catcher for Sam Houston State University. They talk to each other every day and help each other out on baseball matters.
Regarding their family’s football heritage, their uncle, Chris Yelich, was on two Rose Bowl champions with UCLA. Their great-grandfather, Fred Gehrke, played for eleven seasons in the NFL. He is credited with being the first to put a logo on football helmets and creating a face mask for helmets.
