John Trautwein played briefly for the Boston Red Sox in 1988, a year in which the team won the AL East Division. He had a seven-year professional career in the Red Sox and Expos organizations. His father, Jack, and brother, Dave, also played professional baseball.
John’s teenage son, Will, took his own life in 2010. John set up the Will-To-Live Foundation to promote awareness of teenage suicides, and has recently published a book to help further this cause. The book is entitles “Will to Live: A Father’s Story of Loss and Hope.”
