Preston Mattingly Finds Basketball After Brief Baseball Career

Preston Mattingly is a 27-year-old sophomore playing basketball at Lamar University. The son of Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly, Preston turned to basketball after an attempt to follow in his father’s footsteps in baseball.

Preston was a first round pick of the Dodgers in 2006 after he graduated from high school. He played six seasons in the Dodgers organization, but never advanced past Class A.

He decided to pursue a college degree after baseball and since he had excelled in high school basketball, he was able to get a spot on the Lamar basketball team.
