Casey Gillaspie is 3rd MLB Draftee in Family

Casey Gillaspie was a first-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in this year’s MLB Draft. He had been a three-year starter at Wichita State University. He’s doing well enough in his first professional season to play in the New York-Penn League All-Star Game.

His older brother Conor is currently the third baseman for the Chicago White Sox, himself a first-round pick in the 2008 MLB Draft. Their father Mark was an 11th-round pick of the San Diego Padres in 1981, although he never reached the big leagues after eight seasons on the minors.

It appears switch-hitting Casey is likely headed toward a career joining Conor in the Major Leagues.
