Austin Davis is currently playing for the Bluefield Jays, a Rookie League affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Davis was drafted in the 47th round of the 2011 MLB Draft, but chose the college route. He signed with the Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent in 2014. Austin has been around baseball his entire life, since his father, Doug Davis, was a former major league player and is now the Field Coordinator for the Toronto Blue Jays. He had also played 12 seasons in the minor and was the bench coach for the Florida Marlins when they won the World Series in 2003.
Since Austin was not a highly sought-after prospect, his father did give him advice on pursuing a pro baseball career, “Make the best of the opportunity.” Austin says he knows what it takes to be successful and hopes to keep playing as long as he can.
