Casey Gillaspie, the first round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2014 MLB Draft, is following in the footsteps of bother his father and brother. His brother Connor is currently in his fifth major league season as the third baseman for the Chicago White Sox. His father Mark played in the minor leagues from 1981 to 1988, reaching the Triple-A level with the Padres organization before retiring. Casey’s current manager for the Hudson Valley Renegades, Tim Parenton, was a teammate at Mississippi State University with Casey’s father.
Casey says his route to professional baseball has been made easier by having his father and brother go through it previously. They provided advice and counsel throughout his amateur career.
