Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn Sr. died on June 16 at age 54 as a result of a bout with cancer of a salivary gland. His son, Tony Gwynn Jr., is now a major leaguer with the Philadelphia Phillies, in his eighth season. During the past few years, as Tony Sr. was battling the disease, he got frequent calls from his son when they would talk baseball. However, more recently their talks turned to more serious topics other than baseball.
