Atlee Hammaker pitched in the big leagues for twelve seasons during 1981 to 1995. He enjoyed one All-Star season in 1983. His fatherly advice to his daughter Jenna was “don’t date a ballplayer,” because he know how hard of a life that could be. She ignored his counsel and wound up marrying Yan Gomes whom she met at the University of Tennessee. Gomes made his major league debut in 2012 and became the first Brazilian-born player in the major leagues. He currently plays catcher for the Cleveland Indians.
