George “Bud” Scharein, who recently died in Tennessee at age 87, was the son of Art Scharein, who played in the Major Leagues from 1932 to 1934 with the St. Louis Browns. The infielder posted a .244 career average. Art later managed in the minors.
Art’s brother, George Albert Scharein, was also a big league ballplayer with the Philadelphia Phillies from 1937 to 1940. George had a .240 career batting average and continued to play in the minors until 1950.
