Ruly Carpenter Recalls Family Ownership of Phillies

Ruly Carpenter was the third person in his family to oversee the Philadelphia Phillies as owner/president. Ruly, who became president/general manager of the club in 1972, sold the franchise in 1981, His father, Bob, had owned the Phillies since 1949, and his grandfather, R. R. M. Carpenter, had originally purchased the bankrupt franchise in 1943.
