Jacob May, the grandson of former Major Leaguer Lee May Sr., was selected in the third round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Chicago White Sox. Jacob’s father, Lee May Jr., played twelve seasons in the minor leagues, but never reached the big leagues.
Lee May Sr. was a member of the Cincinnati “Big Red Machine” teams of the 1970s. Those teams produced 16 offspring who played professional baseball, several of them at the Major League level. Chapter 16 of my recent book, Family Ties: A Comprehensive Collection of Facts and Trivia About Baseball’s Relatives, has a chapter titled, “Sons of the Big Red Machine”, which talks about the family relationships of those teams.
